How to manage the end of maintenance for software products available in the non-specific version only

Introduction

The following software products are provided in Matrix42 Enterprise Service Management exclusively in the non-specific version:

  • Microsoft, Core Infrastructure Server (CIS) Suite Standard, Non-specific
  • Microsoft, Core Infrastructure Server (CIS) Suite Datacenter, Non-specific
  • Microsoft, Core CAL Suite - User CAL, Non-specific
  • Microsoft, Enterprise CAL Suite (ECAL) - User CAL, Non-specific

The reason behind this is that the software manufacturer sells these software products exclusively with Software Assurance (SA).

If a customer does not renew the Software Assurance, the customer will receive usage rights for the version-specific software products. Such usage rights will be valid till the expiration of the maintenance.

Resolving end of maintenance for non-specific versions of software products

In this example we assume that we need to handle the end of maintenance for Microsoft, Core Infrastructure Server (CIS) Suite Standard, Non-specific.

Take the steps below to resolve the issue:

  1. Create a manual software product. For example, Microsoft, Core Infrastructure Server (CIS) Suite Standard, 2020.

  1. On the Suite tab of the software product dialog, add version-specific software products that may be used when maintenance expires (to the Suite Includes grid). Refer to Microsoft release notes for information on which products are eligible.

  1. On the Downgrades tab of the software product dialog, add non-specific version software products from which a license downgrade may be performed (to the License Downgrade From grid). Refer to Microsoft release notes for information on which products are eligible.

After the maintenance expires for a software product with the non-specific version, refer to this article for information on how to handle the corresponding license.
