User-based licensing for Oracle Java products with Named User Plus metric

Overview

Oracle Compliance supports license assignment to principal users for Java products with Named User Plus metric.

This feature is available starting with version 4.0.1080 of Oracle Compliance. It alre requires the LIS data model "Oracle | Java SE - Named User Plus" with assignment type "Named User" as released May 30, 2023.

Use case: licensing Java products with Named User Plus metric

License requirements based on installed applications are firstly created for the corresponding computer. The used license model defines the eligible consumer type (license assignment) and the background processing eventually creates license requirement(s) for the corresponding consumer.

This standard logic also applies to license requirements from Java inventory for deployments on client operating systems. They follow the "Named User Plus" metric. The initial license requirement for the computer becomes consolidated and a new license requirement for the principal user is either created or - if it already exists - is used.

According to the license model metric, the consumer in the new license requirement is the principal user of the desktop computer.

Use case: licensing Java products with processor based metric

In cases when Java products run on a server OS and have the processor based metric, this initial license requirement for the desktop computer is consolidated as well. A new license requirement is created for the corresponding complex system.
