In January 2018, processor security flaws were discovered which make attacks on computer chip sets possible. Manufacturers have reacted to the security gaps named Meltdown and Spectre with firmware updates. Microsoft has also responded with a security update for Windows systems.

In this context, for the users of our EgoSecure Data Protection solution we want to point out the following:
  • The functionality of EgoSecure Data Protection is not affected by these vulnerabilities.
  • To protect your devices from the risk of attack, install the firmware updates provided by your manufacturer and any security updates provided by your operating system manufacturer and software solutions.
  • A registry key is required for the Windows security update KB4056892 installation on systems with compatible antivirus solutions. This registry key may also be needed on systems that do not use an antivirus solution, it depends on the software environment.
  • EgoSecure Antivirus is fully compatible with the Windows Update KB4056892. When installing the update on systems with the current version 12.3.907.2 of EgoSecure Data Protection no abnormalities occurred. The registration key required for the update is integrated in the current version.

Before running updates on the clients, first test them on non-productive systems.
There are two ways to set the required key for the Windows update KB4056892 on the clients where EgoSecure Antivirus is used:
  • Update EgoSecure Data Protection to 12.3.907.2 to update EgoSecure Antivirus
    or
  • Set the registry key on the clients, where EgoSecure Antivirus is used

Using Registry Editor incorrectly can cause serious problems that may affect the operating system.
