A dialog in Solution Builder is a window that allows you to create new entities and edit existing. Just like in any other computer program, in Solution Builder, a dialog is a window for inputting information and choosing options. The screenshot below shows a sample dialog which you can create with the help of the Solution Builder.

Creating a Dialog

To create a Dialog, in Administration, under User Interface > Layouts:
  • Select "Dialogs" and click the FAB button located in the bottom right-hand corner of the grid.
  • Fill out and save the dialog that appears. Here you will need to provide not only certain basic data, such as the Name and Description for the new entity, but also certain previously created Master Data, such as a Configuration Item.

  • Design the look and feel of the new Dialog in the Layout Designer that appears once you provide all the required data and click SAVE or DONE in the New Entity Creation dialog:

Drag the previously created Master Data from the right-hand panel and drop it onto the canvas to add fields and other controls to the dialog, exactly where you need them.

The data available for selection in the right-hand panel comes from the Configuration Item added to the entity whose layout you are building. The Configuration Item contains a set of Data Definitions. The Data Definitions added to the Configuration Item have Attributes and Relations assigned to them. Drag and drop these Attributes and Relations onto the canvas to create the layout of the dialog. These Attributes and Relations are the fields and other controls that the user will see in the dialog you are designing. Once you drag and drop an Attribute / Relation onto the canvas, select the type of the control from the list of available options that appears.

The new entity will appear on the canvas. You can now set properties for the newly added Attribute or Relation in the right-hand panel, Properties view, that opens up.

You can also click the +ADD SOURCE button at the very bottom of the right-hand panel in the Data Model view and create a new Source Configuration from a Service Operation, Entity, Data Definition, or Data Query. Once you add a Configuration Source by filling out and saving the Add New Source dialog, you can use the data from the new source in the dialog you are building. You can add the entities from the new configuration source to the canvas, likewise, by means of simple drag-and-drop.

You can also open the Toolbox by clicking the Toolbox (Wrench) icon in the right-hand panel of the Layout Designer, locate the controls you need under the available categories - Literals, Controls, Layout, Image Controls, Grid Controls, and Charts - and then drag-and-drop the selected entities onto the canvas, into the desired location.

When done designing the layout, click the "Save & Close" button located in the Main Toolbar at the top of the screen.

TIP: You can open an entity in the Layout Designer at a later point in time by clicking …MORE > CUSTOMIZE in the toolbar of the entity’s Preview dialog. Once you open an entity in the Layout Designer, you can make changes to the layout of this entity by rearranging the data on the canvas, modifying its look and feel, removing the attributes from the canvas and adding new ones from the right-hand panel.
