Configuring and running the Azure Inventory data provider

Configuring the Azure Inventory data provider

Setting up the configuration

To configure the data provider:

  1. In the Administration application go to Integration > Data Providers and open the Azure Inventory data provider for editing.
  2. Edit the default configuration from the Configurations grid.
  3. On the General page:
  1. Configure Virtual Machine Settings on the Settings page:
  • If the Create new computers checkbox is selected, you can choose the organizational unit to which newly imported computers will be assigned as well as select the status and management type for them.
  • If the Change status for deleted computers checkbox is selected, you can use the corresponding dropdown field to set a preferred status to computers that are no longer imported from your company's Microsoft Azure portal.
  1. Configure Resource Settings on the Settings page:
  • If the Import cloud services checkbox is selected, you can choose the organizational unit to which newly imported cloud services will be assigned as well as select the status and them.
  • If the Change status for deleted services checkbox is selected, you can use the corresponding dropdown field to set a preferred status to cloud services that are no longer imported from your company's Microsoft Azure portal.
  1. Configure Custom Workflow Parameters on the Settings page:

  1. Save the configuration.
  2. Run the Enable and Activate action for the data provider.

You can also create a schedule for the Azure Inventory Activation engine activation. As a result, the engine activation will automatically run the data provider at the specified intervals.

Checking the import results

Click the configuration of the  Azure Inventory data provider to open its preview.

The Last Result section of the preview shows if the import was successful or not. The preview also displays all jobs, workflow instances and import logs for the selected configuration.

You can also review jobs, workflow instances and import logs on the separate tabs of the configuration dialog. Import logs contain only records related to import of cloud resources. If you do not import cloud resources, this tab will be empty.

After the successful execution of the data provider, you can also find an XML file with imported virtual machines in the Matrix42 root folder under Messages/Data/AzureVMInventory/LastResult, an XML file with hardware and software inventory for these machines under Messages/Data/AzureVMAppInventory/LastResult, and an XML file with all cloud resources under Messages/Data/AzureResourceInventory/LastResult.

If some virtual machine is missing from the imported data, you can check the storage account container on the Azure portal. All error logs are saved there in case of import errors.
