Enrollment Process

An enrollment of iOS and iPadOS devices can be carried out with Silverback in several variants, as the following overview will demonstrate. In this getting started guide, we will focus on the User driven process with the Self Service Portal.

Administrator driven process with the Management Console
  • Administrator creates a pending enrollment from the Management Console and performs the enrollment on behalf of a user.
  • Administrators creates a pending enrollment from the Management Console and users will receive their enrollment information via E-Mail to perform the enrollment.
User driven process with the Self Service Portal
  • Users are opening and logging into the Self Service Portal from a second device. Without providing a phone number, they can scan the provided QR-Code with the built-in camera to perform the enrollment. 
  • If users are entering their Phone Number during the Self Service process, they can decide either to scan the QR-Code or open the link inside the received SMS
  • Users are opening and logging in into the Self Service Portal from the same device and can use the direct download link to perform the enrollment
User driven process with the Self Service Portal for BYOD devices (User Enrollment)
  • Users are opening and logging in into Self Service Portal from the same device, selecting User Enrollment for Apple devices as ownership with providing their Managed Apple ID and use the direct download link to perform the enrollment.
Automated Process via the Device Enrollment Program
  • When using the Device Enrollment Program, devices will get during the out-of-the-box experience their download link from the deployment service. Here, users can either authenticate with Username and Password or with Username and One Time Password. If One Time passwords are used, users can create their OTP by using the Self Service process or Administrators can initiate the process of providing the enrollment information with the administrator driven approach. 
Additional Options
  • In addition to the above described methods, administrators can additionally modify simple enrollment settings to prevent the usage of a QR-Code or direct download links. In such a scenario, users or administrators are forced to open the activation page to enter the One Time Password manually, before performing the enrollment

User driven process with the Self Service Portal

From PC

Configure Self Service options as an Administrator under Admin > Self Service Portal

  • Click Start
  • Switch to your iOS or iPadOS device
  • When you receive the SMS on your device, simply click on the URL link to start the configuration profile download.
  • If you want to scan the QR-Code, open Camera and scan the QR-Code to open the download link
  • Tab Allow to download the configuration
  • Tab Close
  • Open now the Settings application
  • Select Profile Downloaded
  • Press Install
  • Enter your device passcode
  • Tab Install
  • Tab Trust
  • Tab Done

Your device is now connected to Silverback. 

  • Press the home button. Within 60 to 90 seconds you should see the M42 Silverback App Portal icon on your home screen.
  • Once you see the App Portal icons your device is under Matrix42 Silverback management.

From Device

Another method is to perform the process entirely on the device that is to be enrolled by the user.

  • Open Safari on your iOS or iPadOS device

Only Safari allows to install Management Profiles on iOS devices.

  • Open a new tab and and/or enter your Silverback Self-Service Portal (SSP) address (e.g https://silverback.imagoverum.com/ssp)
  • Enter Username
  • Enter Password
  • Click Sign-In
  • Leave the Mobile field empty if your device cannot receive an SMS or you don't want to receive an SMS.
  • Select your ownership (optional) 
  • Accept terms and conditions (optional)
  • Click Start
  • Tab the shown activation link from the Browser section
  • Tab Allow 
  • Select Close
  • Open now the Settings application
  • Select Profile Downloaded
  • Press Install
  • Enter your device passcode
  • Tab Install
  • Tab Trust
  • Tab Done

Your device is now connected to Silverback. 

  • Press the home button. Within 60 to 90 seconds you should see the M42 Silverback App Portal icon on your home screen.
  • Once you see the App Portal icons your device is under Matrix42 Silverback management.
