Configuring and running the Azure Hybrid Benefit data providers

After you have configured both data providers, you can set up the schedule to launch both data providers automatically. To do so, edit the Azure Hybrid Benefit Data Provider Activation engine activation in the Administration application and specify the schedule for it.

The Azure Hybrid Benefit Inventory – Virtual Machines data provider

Setting up the configuration

To configure the data provider:

  1. In the Administration application go to Integration > Data Providers and open the Azure Hybrid Benefit - Virtual Machines data provider for editing.
  2. Edit the default configuration from the Configurations grid.
  3. On the General page:

The same service connection record should be selected in both data providers.

  • Default value for Data Collector Workflow is Azure hybrid benefit data collector.
  • Default value for Data Post Processing Workflow is Azure hybrid benefit post-data processing.

The Account and Password fields should be left empty. They are irrelevant for this data provider.

  1. Configure the Settings page:
  • If the Create new computers checkbox is selected, you can choose the organizational unit to which newly imported computers will be assigned as well as select the status and management type for them.
  • If the Change status for deleted computers checkbox is selected, you can use the corresponding dropdown field to set a preferred status to computers that have been deleted from your company's Microsoft Azure portal.
  • The Key Fields grid specifies the matching rules for assets. By default key fields are:
    • AHBResourceClass.ResourceUri with priority 1
    • SPSComputerClassBase.DNSName with priority 2
    • SPSComputerClassBase.Name with priority 3

If during the import any of the matching attributes is null, the matching process skips it.

You can add additional keys if necessary. Use the Priority field to set the sequence of matching where 1 is the highest priority. In the Expression field specify the attribute that should be used for matching. To set a matching key:

  • Use the following format: "SPSComputerClassBase.Name". ASQL expressions are not supported.
  • Use comma in an expression to combine several attributes with the AND operator.

The Custom Workflow Parameters grid is not used by default. However, you can use it if you want to adjust the default Azure Hybrid Benefit workflows. For more information on custom workflow parameters, please refer to Configuring and running the generic inventory import data provider.

  1. Save the configuration.
  2. Run the Enable and Activate action for the data provider.
