Create license requirements for Microsoft Extended Security Updates (ESU)
Introduction
Microsoft's Extended Security Update (ESU) program is a option for customers who need to run certain legacy Microsoft products past the end of support. It includes critical and/or important security updates for a maximum of three years after the product's End of Extended Support date. More information can be found on this page from Microsoft (external link).
CREATE SUBSCRIPTION LICENSE
The ESU subscription is nothing else than a license in the inventory of purchased licenses. Here, create a license record with type "Subscription" providing all required data.
More information on how to manage your license inventory can be found here.
CREATE LICENSE REQUIREMENTS
License requirements are required to measure if you are properly subscribed. Create a license requirement rule to create and maintain them automatically. The rule should refer the software product that represents the subscription service and use license requirements for the underlying software product.
Example:
Target Software Product | Referenced Software Product |
Microsoft, SQL Server Standard ESU 07/2020 - 07/2021 | Microsoft, SQL Server Standard 2008 Microsoft, SQL Server Standard 2008 R2 |
Automatic calculation of license requirements for virtualized servers, product version 10.0.3 is required. With older version, quantity of such license requirements will be 0.
