Application Guide Part I: Application Types

Application Types

Each operating system offers different application types, which will be explained in the following table:

Operating System App Type Description
iPhone Enterprise Distribute corporate owned applications with an *.ipa file to users
App Store Distribute applications from Apple's public App Store. Silverback will force to download and install these apps from the public App Store and/or display a link in the App Portal.  Users will need an personal Apple ID for downloading and installing these apps.
VPP VPP apps will appear automatically in the App Portal when Silverback is connected with your Volume Purchase Program. Administrators can shop these applications within the Apple Business Manager. 
iPad Enterprise Distribute corporate owned applications with an *.ipa file to users.
App Store Distribute applications from Apple's public App Store. Silverback will force to download and install these apps from the public App Store and/or display a link in the App Portal. Users will need an personal Apple ID for downloading and installing these apps.

Android Managed Play Distribute applications from Google Play to the Managed Google Play app store. It is designed for Android Enterprise where users does not need any personal Google Account for downloading and installing apps. Managed Google Play app store can be seen as a corporate app store for your Android Enterprise Organization.

App Store (*deprecated) Distribute applications from Google Play. Silverback will force to download and install these apps from the public Google Play store or display a link in the App Portal. Users will need an personal Google Account for downloading and installing these apps.
Samsung Knox Managed Play Distribute applications from Google Play to the Managed Google Play app store. It is designed for Android Enterprise where users does not need any personal Google Account for downloading and installing apps. Managed Google Play app store can be seen as a corporate app store for your Android Enterprise Organization.

Windows Enterprise Distribute *.msi files to users on Windows 10/11.
Business Business apps will automatically appear in the App Portal when Silverback is connected with the Windows Store for Business
macOS Enterprise Distribute *.pkg files to users.
VPP VPP apps will appear automatically in the App Portal when Silverback is connected with your Volume Purchase Program token. Administrators can shop these applications within the Apple Business Manager.
