HowTo: Subdepot and OS Deployment with Client Management (Empirum) SaaS

This HowTo is currently not recommended and should be used for reference purpose only. Any Subdepot implementations should be use the WebDAV implementation.

Introduction

To use OS deployment with Client Management (Empirum) SaaS a Subdepot at the customers network is required. This document describes the necessary steps to set up and configure a Subdepot for sucessful communication with the SaaS service and the current limitations of OS deployment.

Deploy the Subdepot

Install at the Subdepot server the latest UEM Agent. A step by step description can be found here. The Subdepot server should assigned to a Configuration Group where at least the following software packages and objects should assigned:

  • Empirum Subdepot
  • Empirum Subdepot PXE Service (if OS deployment is required)
  • Matrix42 UEM Agent Windows
  • the correct Agent Template to communicate with the SaaS Environment

Configure the Variables

  • SUBDEPOT
  • SUBDEPOT_SERVICES (if OS deployment is required)
  • MX42_UEM_DEPOT_MANAGEMENT

A detailled description of the new UEM Agent based Subdepot-Sync functionality can be found at the UEM Agent documentation.

Activate and install the software packages.

Preparation of OS Sources and Boot-images

OS Sources

Currently it's not possible to upload and import any OS Sources or Language Pack because of technical and security limitation. Please open a ticket at our Support Portal or by sending an email to helpdesk@matrix42.com. The Support team will provide you an upload link where you can send the sources, the Support team will import the Sources at your SaaS environment.

The similar limitation exist for any sources for the Windows Feature Update Packages, where a support ticket is needed.

Boot-images

The Windows Administration Kit is already installed (and imported) at the Master server. You can start to configure and create the Boot Configuration.

The creation of "Offline Boot Media" and the "Enabling Self Provisioning" is not possible.

If the boot-image requires custom drivers they can be uploaded via WebDAV protocol to https://empirum000.m42cloud.com/Matrix42-Empirum/EmpInst/CustomWinPEDriver. The process is identically to the upload of Software packages

The Matrix42 WinPE Driver Assistant is accessible in the same way as the Empirum Management Console.
